This story is part of a bunch of tales known as

Sir James Dyson and his design firm, famous for its vacuums, have in recent years made waves in the beauty world using the futuristic-looking Dyson hair drier. While the products are colorful expensive, hyper-engineered, and interesting to check at, neither is a glamorous item, Dyson 500 hair dryer, Clarified. This week, however, the company one-upped its own showmanship and declared it will launch a Dyson Supersonic hair drier that is literally gilded with 23.75-karat gold foliage, which will sell for about $499.99.

While the information has not yet been reported widely yet, people have been receiving word from the business by using their inboxes. Plus they have ideas. Twitter user @FannyLawren wrote:”Who needs a golden hair dryer? No one. However, Crazy Rich Asians and the Celebrities may desire it. Great gimmick! @Dyson #MarketingStrategy #luxurylifestyle.” User @kylethepeck was somewhat less diplomatic.

Do not get me wrong, I love my Dyson products, but says”I am a rich asshole who doesn’t understand how to spend my money” like a true gold plated hair dryer.

$500 appears an eye-popping sum to get a hair application till you understand that the regular, non-gilded Dyson dryer, that launched in the fall of 2016, costs $399.99. And there’s a variant engineered for professional hairstylists that’s $449.99.

So just how did the market for a luxury-priced golden hair drier come about? It has to do with the ability of celebrity savvy marketing, and a viral photograph of a chicken.

That he Dyson invaded a very insular market

Dyson, that is worth $5.3 billion, is well known in designing circles also leaves a splash any time that it establishes a new product because the company is fantastic at dramatic rollouts. However, the Dyson hair dryer created a huge impression since the hot hair tool area is a fairly insular marketplace that doesn’t often see new brands (T3, Conair, GHD, Hot Tools, Chi, Babyliss, plus a couple of others dominate) — and because it upended traditional hair dryer design in ways the stalwarts had not.

Rather than the motor being put on top near the nozzle, which then contributes to the top-heaviness of classic dryers, Dyson put a little motor in the handle. The nozzle contains a sawed-off texture, complete with a pit in the middle, and is doughnut-shaped. The dryer that is Supersonic is made by this quieter lighter, and more ergonomic it looks like something you would find in a Star Trek movie.

Though the plan is brand new, tricking out the tool at a metallic finish isn’t. Firms have long driven earnings by changing colors and finishes to suit whatever is trending in vogue since there’s very little that can be done to change a blow dryer design-wise. Finishes have been popular for a few decades, particularly rose gold — though Dyson might be the first to literally cover the thing in a precious metal.

As per a press release, accompanied with an admittedly intriguing movie, Dyson enlisted the support of a traditional guilder, a craft that dates back 4,000 decades, to hand-apply 23.75-karat gold foliage — a very special karat weight selected by James himself onto the nozzle. There is A bright red primer used and then the golden leaf brushed on top, so that when it melts, the red shows through. With the red primer is matched by the carrying case, and the remainder of the dryer is blue. The entire issue is emblematic of the standard messaging of Dyson: We are additional.
